A Closer Look at How World of Tanks Was Intentionally Created To those who haven’t been with the game for too long, this piece is here to enlighten you about how Wargaming operates as a company. Generally when people suggest the game being rigged, or that the matchmaker is out to get them, or anything like that, they quickly get shot down by the giant army of Wargaming fanboys. This isn’t to say that those claims are true per se, but there’s a significant lack of reason amongst many of the diehard World of Tanks players. There are certain topics that, when brought up on the forums or elsewhere, they bring in all the trolls and the original poster is basically laughed away from the game. It’s these topics which I will now discuss in detail. The Early Days Back in closed beta and the days of the game’s release , it was particularly obvious that World of Tanks was a very fun, creative, and new take on a player versus player game. There simply wasn’t anything like it, and this drew many big-time gamers in. It was also very obvious that, if you were to get drawn into the game and start spending money, you could spend a great deal indeed. The inclusion of a Small Cockpit allows for the armor to be increased to eleven and a half tons worth. Mounting Ferro-Fibrous armor allows a ton less to be carried to be devoted to CASE in each torso, while switching all its heat sinks to doubles improves its heat dissipation. Also, it has 4 one-shot Ten-Tube Rocket Launchers mounted into both torsos.

To handle the heat load, the ‘Mech has 15 Double heat sinks. To give it mobility, the customized machine has four Jump Jets mounted into its torsos.

THE Defining Difference Between the Tiers When people ask me about what the difference is between low tiers and high tiers, there is one thing which comes to mind, one thing that matters, one thing that, by itself, represents a huge shift in design philosophy from the first tier to the last. This thing is the ratio of DPM-to-health.

It is why low tier play is fast-paced and high tier play is slow-paced. It is why low tier play is dominated by strong individuals and high tier play is dominated by unified teams. The difference in this ratio between the low tiers and high tiers has allowed for two wildly different games to exist within the same framework, and it just so happens that the low tier side of things is far and away better than high tiers in this defining aspect.

The ratio of DPM-to-health is a measure of how fast you can expect things to die over a long period of time. In other words, given how much damage something can do in a minute and the health of the targets being destroyed, the ratio expresses how many targets will die in one minute. Divide this number into 60 and you get how many seconds it takes for one thing to die.

Higher ratios mean destroying more stuff in the same time. It should be somewhat apparent to anyone who’s spent time in WoT across the tiers that this ratio is highest at the lower tiers and lowest at the higher tiers. Similarly, reload times tend to increase by climbing tiers. It’s not as though low tiers have a high ratio because they have high tier reloads and alpha that strongly overmatches every tank in the tier.

This combination of low reload and high DPM-to-health ratio result in two major things, the first of which is fast and active gameplay. Weapons are much more “live” in low tiers without the long reloads that act as safety periods for enemies to move around safely.

The Match maker is a complicated issue that is being addressed. Players would like to see both more even battles, less , balanced artillery with a maximum number in a game, scouts being available in only those battles that artillery are present, platoon balance, not constantly being put in the lowest tiers in a battle, and the spread of the tiers.

This all needs to be done without taking a long time to find you a match. This sums up the whole problem in a nutshell. I say that because its rare to wait more than 15 seconds for a match right now, and often as soon as you hit the battle button, you are dropped immediately into place. While complicated, the first version of this new Match Maker should be available around the 7.

It will take into account many of the above listed issues that players have brought up. The one thing that will be absent is a hard 3 tier spread. While this is on the surface good news, its kind of a silver bullet as well. For example, one of the most enjoyable matches in the game now is one of the battles the matchmaker will created that involves only tanks from tiers 3, 4 , and 5.

Now as you can imagine, that kind of stuff happened in real life…and it was about as fun as it ends up being in the game. It will try to create fun and balanced matches with vehicles that are available at the time. It will no longer immediately assign you to the first available battle you are qualified for, but rather hold your tank and make it available to several matches that are gathering players. This will add the flexibility of generating better matches.

If you think that the fast play of low tiers is too tough for new players and is instead what experienced players should be drawn towards, then WoT is this topsy-turvy mess where low tiers are the premier gameplay mode and high tiers are a tutorial that’s way too far out of reach.

In our battle we can face Tiger II and for example M6 both can participate in tier 8 battles. There are 12 battle tiers.
